The ASA would like to congratulate the Coalition on its return to government. We are looking forward to building a relationship with the Hon Paul Fletcher, MP, newly appointed Minister for Communications, Cybersafety and the Arts and we congratulate him on his new portfolio.  Upon his appointment, Mr Fletcher said, "I am also delighted that the portfolio includes responsibility for Australia’s vibrant and critically important arts sector.  Australia’s performers and creative artists are world renowned – and make a profound contribution to our national identity." 

We urge the Government to release an Arts Policy at its earliest opportunity and look forward to communicating our highest priority 'asks' of government to Mr Fletcher on behalf of our members.

We'd also like to warmly congratulate Senator the Hon Linda Reynolds CSC on her appointment to Cabinet as Minister for Defence. Both Senator Linda Reynolds and Graham Perrett MP have served as joint chairs of Parliamentary Friends of Australian Books and Writers and have been valued friends of the ASA.
