You're invited to the Barbara Jefferis Award online ceremony

The Australian Society of Authors is delighted to invite you to the:

 
2020 Barbara Jefferis Award Ceremony

For the first time ever, the Barbara Jefferis Award Ceremony will be streamed online, in a celebration hosted by award-winning author, Bri Lee. Bri will deliver a speech on the representation of women in literature prior to the announcement of the 2020 Award winner.

Our Host: Bri Lee

Bri Lee is an award-winning author, freelance journalist, and academic. Her books are Eggshell Skull and Beauty, and her third book Brains is scheduled for 2021. Her journalism and other writing has appeared in The Monthly, The Saturday Paper, Good Weekend, The Guardian Australia, and elsewhere. Bri is the 2020 UTS and Copyright Agency Writer-in-Residence.

About the Award

The Award is named for highly regarded author Barbara Jefferis, a founding member of the Australian Society of Authors, and is offered for “the best novel written by an Australian author that depicts women and girls in a positive way or otherwise empowers the status of women and girls in society.”

In 2020, the Award prize pool is valued at $55,000, with $50,000 for the winner and $5,000 to be shared among the short-listed authors, making this one of the most generous literary awards in Australia.
